250K 30ft Portable Proof Test Machine/ Test Bed

Specifications

  • Tension is supplied by a hydraulic cylinder. For easier and faster hookup, the cylinder is in the pulling mode.
  • The foundation of this system is the hydraulic power unit. With the ability to control the hydraulics at small increments with a constant, steady flow of hydraulic fluid to the cylinder allows us to calibrate to ASTM E-4,  1% , traceable to the National Institute of Standards and Technology(NIST). Pulsations or fluctuations in pressure will not be tolerated. These pulsations or fluctuations of pressure will be transferred into the load cell and give you erroneous readings on your test data, whether it be a proof test or a break test. The power unit is connected to the test machine by hydraulic hoses. This allows the operator and control unit to be located away from the machine and still have good visual contact.
  • The hydraulic power unit has very sophisticated, accurate pumps and valves for the purpose of adjusting very small increases in pressure and maintaining a very accurate flow. The power unit also has electric valves versus manual valves. The electric valves are needed for ease of operation, accuracy, and to be able to install the remote control switch. The electric valve setup cost more, but will save time and manpower costs in the long run.
  • For repeat testing, a manual loadlock is furnished at no charge. For testing several items, the operator sets this on the first test piece. The machine will automatically return to this pressure load each time a new piece is placed into the machine.
  • The load measuring system, an electronic load cell, is the heart of the system. (Please see  "Comparison of Hydraulic Gauges Versus Electronic Load Cell") The load cell allows the very accurate recording of the load attained during a test. The electronic strain gage load cell is an independent measuring system not tied into the hydraulic system. This load cell system, with two ranges, may be calibrated to 1% of the maximum capacity of the load cell. The load cell will calibrate to ASTM E-4,  1%, traceable to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
  • Load cells and gauges are normally calibrated for 10% to 100% of their range. The lower 10% of a range is usually not calibrated. Therefore, multiple ranges must be used to calibrate at the lower limits. One or two ranges are available. The two ranges would be as follows:
    • 1,000 lbs to 10,000 lbs (453.6 kgs to 4,536 kgs)
    • 5,000 lbs to 50,000 lbs. (2,268 kgs to 22,680 kgs)
  • The separate peak/hold range is an excellent feature. The peak/hold recall must be manually reset after each use. With the separate peak/hold range, it resets automatically. At times, the last test peak could possibly be lost if the peak/recall were not reset before each test. With a separate range, you never lose the peak of the last test because it automatically resets.
  • An RS232 output plug (needed to add a computer)

Standard Features

  • Meets the requirements of:
    • ASTM E-4,
    • Department of the Defense Military Standards, and
    • ISO 9000.
  • Has a digital indicator connected to an electronic load cell. Hydraulic gauges are not as accurate and do not meet all the standards listed above. (See "Comparison of Hydraulic Gauges Versus Electronic Load Cells".)
  • Auto Ranging
  • Load Limit Control
  • Will test both dynamic and static to 50,000 lbs. (22,680 kgs)
  • Ease of operation
    • Hydraulic cylinder extends and lowers the connection on the chain to the "Loading Position." This is a convenient work height and is much easier to load than if was 6 feet off the floor.
    • Hoist hook is attached to the load cell at the bottom of the frame.
  • Hydraulic pressure is adjusted to proper range.
  • Digital indicator displays pounds of force. No interpolation of gauges; no changing of rigging. Simple direct reading on the indicator. One number on one indicator.
  • Roberts Testing Equipment
    • Accurate to  1% of reading
    • Traceable to NIST (NBS)
    • Can be calibrated from 1% to 100% of max. cap.
    • Test stand will test many other items

  • Competition
    • Not accurate to  1% of reading
    • Not traceable to NIST (NBS)
    • Can not be calibrated from 1% to 100% of max. cap.
    • Will not test many items

Recommended Equipment

  • 50,000 lb. Vertical Test Stand
    • with load cell
    • with Test Certificate software. (Roberts Testing Equipment, Inc. will set up the computer with the software.)
  • NOTE: NOT DESIGNED FOR BREAK TESTING, THERE ARE NO PROTECTIVE COVERS.

Options

  • Test Certificate software - Robers Proof Test Certificate software, designed specifically for Roberts Testing Equipment, Inc., generates a "TEST CERTIFICATE" from the actual load indicator on the vertical test stand. Enclosed is a brochure that gives an example of the TEST CERTIFICATE. A computer with the following minimum requirements is needed to run the software efficiently.
    • Microsoft XP
    • A printer of your choice; both Inkjet and Laserjet printers produce good results.

It is preferable for the customer to purchase their own computer; however, if desired, a complete hardware and software package can be quoted and purchased.
